A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to Newly elected Comilla City Corporation Mayor Monirul Haque Sakku after he surrendered before court in a graft case filed by the Anti‐Corruption Commission (ACC).
Judge (in-charge) Zahidul Kabir of the Senior Special Judges’ Court passed the order after a lawyer of Shakoo, also a BNP leader, moved a petition seeking his bail on Tuesday.
The newly elected mayor is scheduled to take oath on 11 May.
Earlier on April 18, the court issued an arrest warrant against Sakku. The court also ordered to seize his properties if he escapes arrest.
On May 7, 2008, Shahin Ara Mamtaz, assistant director of ACC, filed a case against Sakku and his wife Afroza Jesmin on charge of concealing information of wealth worth TK 12.50 crore and amassing wealth of TK 4.57 crore through illegal means.
